This External Door with Glass Etching Certainly is Unique
Our customer here needed a new front entry external door with glass etching for a new home build. He loves the Florida Keys so the new home has a Key West style architecture.
Now he needed that external door to reflect the theme of the home. After presenting several variations on this design, he chose a variation that included the etched lobster. We offered a windrose option for the top area but he wanted a simpler version so we added some small fish to that area.
When you are choosing a design for the door, we look for starting ideas from the customer and put those ideas together. We try to make several variations so there are choices. As we design the glass etching design, naturally a few variations on the same design will arise. These ideas are put into a line art picture for the customer to review and make a choice. When you have looked at our site for a while, you will be able to visualize the final product by viewing elements from other projects.
The Etched Glass Panels for External Doors
Choosing the glass panel for the etching to be applied to is the next step. This customer chose a new type glass called ” Streamed “. It is a very dense glass and can even be used for bathroom exterior doors to the patio. The etching is always done to the exterior side. Do not worry about cleaning it because it cleans very easily with soap if necessary or just regular glass cleaner. It is always best to keep oily items from touching the etched area and then of course cover when painting. Other than that glass etching is low maintenance.
This is a close up of the streamed glass as seen from the outside. You can see the choices of all the glass panels for glass etching on our glass choices page.
