Are You Refurbishing a Wood Pantry Door?
Our customer was building a new home in North Florida. The family had an old farmhouse wood pantry door that had been in the family for years. (PLEASE NOTICE: I AM PROVIDING THE GLASS ONLY FOR THIS DIY HOMEOWNER DOOR REFURBISHING PROJECT) It did need new decorative glass for the top half of the door. It required a custom cut tempered glass that would fit into the existing opening.
The perfect tribute to his family was to still call the pantry door by the family name. A simple border design was created with a traditional framed design and a little decorative detail centered inside the frame. He did a fantastic job of refinishing this family door for his new home.
The pantry doors we provide are full lite not half lite. The standard doors just are not offered in half lite unless you choose to purchase from a specialty door provider which does increase the cost of the door. We can order those but most often people choose the less expensive and faster lead time option.
Glass Types Available
Tempered glass is a requirement for all doors by law. This is an important safety requirement in the event of glass breakage. It is also referred to as “safety glass”. The reason is because if it breaks, the glass will shatter into small pieces. Regular glass breaks into large sharp pieces which can impale a person and inflict serious injury.
Since tempered glass is a requirement, the choices available are limited by which textures are tempered at the tempering plants serving the industry.
That leaves us with the choice of clear, rainglass or P-10. P-10 is a textured glass with a small grainy texture. It gives a distorted privacy as you can see in the picture above with the lights on inside the pantry. The rainglass is a heavier texture which often competes with a decorative design. P-10 was a perfect choice.
This bathroom window used the same privacy glass. It gives adequate privacy for most bathroom applications but allows light into the room. Etched bathroom window
