Use an interior door as a unique frosted glass door

     How about using a frosted glass door with a custom etched design? Our customer wanted to separate areas with a barn door but still wanted see past the doorway. Her best option was to use an interior door with clear glass.  The decorative etched glass theme she chose was tropical.  Specifically wanting an egret in water with a palm tree. 

     The dark areas in the photo is the clear area since we had to take photos with a dropcloth behind it.  It is not black glass!  This just helps us show you the decorative glass etching detail. 

Barn Doors with Etched Glass

     Glass doors can be hung as barn doors. The size of the door needs to be wider than the current door by 2-6″.  This depends on what the door is covering.  If it is a Pantry door, then overlap is not important. If it is a bathroom or bedroom door then you will want more coverage for privacy reasons.  Barn doors usually serve as decorative functional items especially when the swing of the door is obstructed.   Remember, you still need wall space for the door to retract. The barn door hardware will need to be twice as wide as the door width you are choosing. 

     If you want a frosted glass door, it will obscure the view past the opening.  If you just want to separate spaces, then clear glass will be more appropriate. The standard glass doors come in widths 24″ 28″ 30″ 32″ and 36″.  The standard heights are 80″ and 96″.   Those are your standard readymade options without constructing a custom made glass door.   The standard door is primed white, ready for the final coat of paint after installation.
