Shipping double doors with a door frame
“Knockdown” door frames make shipping a double door much easier. Trying to deal with a tacked together door frame is bulky and awkward. Double door left in the frame are incredibly heavy. So what’s the answer?
“Knockdown” means the frame is prepped as if it is going to be put all together, but then it’s not. The hinge prep is there on the doors and usually the hinges are both attached to the door frame. This is all very common preparation that door installers are familiar with.
Are doors boxed or wrapped?
No. Once they have been through a door hanging process, there is no wrapping. This is not the easiest item to put in a box anyway. And this also makes handling the items much easier than an awkward cardboard box.
Many of our customers pick up with personal vehicles. Trucks or suvs. My recommendation is just to bring blankets. Tie down straps if necessary. Exterior doors are not susceptible to rain but interior doors need to be transported in an enclosed vehicle.
Clients that would prefer delivery, we usually use Uship.com. These are independent carriers that transport for a fee and do not require crating shipment items. Large carriers all require crating, so UShip independents has been the best option for our products.
Exterior Door Installation
Before installation, be sure to remove the flush bolt plate. It is shown in an image above. This is often found either attached to the exterior of the door frame or it is attached to the latch strike plate.
The purpose of this flush bolt plate is to give the slide bolt on the astrical a hole protection on the door frame. Without it the hole could become wallowed out and make the door feel loosly installed.
