Etched Glass Doors
What is Etched Glass? What is Sandblasted Glass?
Glass etching with sandblast media is the way handmade glass etching is done using templates and pressurized sandblast pots. It is more versatile design wise and used for bigger areas, unlike liquid glass etching cream which is used for small wine glass type projects.
Glass etching is also permanent. I will not change or fade over time. Also this is surface etching on the door glass and does not weaken the glass in any way. Carved glass is deeper etching into the glass which does weaken the glass. Additionally, our tempered glass is not thick enough for carving and it is tempered. Only non tempered glass can be carved. So our surface etching will not affect the strength of the glass.
Standard doors are built with 1/8″ tempered glass and held into doors with a frame that secures the glass into the door. Hurricane impact door inserts are double layers of 1/8″ glass with a laminate gluing them permanently together. This lamination only applies to exterior doors. The hurricane impact also has an airspace then another layer of glass for an overall thickness of 1″. Interior doors are typically only 1 layer of glass if they are clear glass especially. My frosted glass interior doors have an option of double layers of tempered glass.
I specialize in glass etching designs on doors for interior and exterior applications. All designs are done in house, designs created by me and blasted by me. The shaded etching gives more detail than the stencil type look achieved with on-site glass etchers. All my projects are done in a sandblast booth where I can control the shading process which is not achievable with on-site equipment.
