Clear Cabinet Glass
Use clear glass when you want to display your cookware and glassware. A custom design will add visual interest without preventing visitors from seeing your display items. It is subtle decoration, and unique.
This customer was having her entire kitchen remodeled. White cabinets uppers and darker cabinets lower. This is a very popular combination. We provided her with glass that her cabinet installer installed after the cabinets were hung.
How to take the Cabinet Glass Measurements
Our customer had ordered new cabinets already prepped for glass to be installed. That is called “open” as opposed to “panelled”. The glass for cabinets will be usually 1/8″ thick. Some glass is 3/16″ but it is close. The 1/4″ usually does not fit unless it is siliconed in place all around. It is also heavy so the best recommendation is 1/8″.
As far as the size, take measurements with a carpenters tape measure. Deduct at least 1/8″ off the width and height. Many people take 1/4 off the overall width and 1/8″ off the top. If it is very tight it could be broken easily.
Look at the corners and notice if the cabinets needs the corners to be square or have rounded corners. The etched side of the glass can be the inside or outside.I beleive this is shown as outside etch. sometimes when you do not have a lot of contrast, outside etch is best. The white cabinets do not make the contrast for the background, the dishes do. Dark cabinets on the inside have awesome contrast, but presently the white cabinets are most popular.
